Demolition has commenced on the Heath Lodge site in preparation for the new development of 20 flats and 9 mews houses in line with the plans which were approved in 2011.

In February this year, following many neighbours’ concerns about the proposal to build the block and mews houses in several shades of GREY, which in no way would complement the surrounding houses and cottages, the Planning Committee of Ealing Council was persuaded to reject the materials being proposed by the developers and request them to come forward with alternatives.

There will instead be a presentation by the architect and developer at the HCF Open Meeting on 23rd April.

Neighbours and HCF say: “This is our last chance to influence them to use a palette of materials which will work well with the local surroundings, for example using aged London stock and red brick or stone detailing, slate or clay roof tiles, to reflect what is used in the 1900s houses in Balfour Avenue and the 1860s cottages opposite the site”.

Much interest and a great deal of work is going into the setting up of a Hanwell Neighbourhood Forum, a representative body that will have official status and influence in the localised planning processes envisaged in the Localism Act.  Its ongoing progress will be reported!
